40th Reunion: The Numbers

The Underwood High School Class of 1975 reunited 40 years after graduation during the weekend of August 22-23, 2015, to share friendship and memories.  After eight months of planning by the six-member committee, the reunion event was a great success.

The tour of the Elementary/Middle School on Saturday afternoon was attended by nine classmates and four family members.  Our tour director was Annette Koenig, Middle School/A.D. Secretary, who provided us with fascinating information and answered our questions.  The Elementary School just completed its 50th year of service, as our class started second grade in the brand new building in the fall of 1964.  We were impressed with how well-maintained the building appeared.  We all commented on how much the rooms, particularly the lunchroom/multipurpose room, had "shrunk" since we were students!

The Saturday evening Social Hour/Banquet had thirty classmates and thirteen spouses in attendance, for a total of forty-three.  A thunderstorm prevented the planned photograph on the patio alongside the Missouri River, but classmates posed for the photographer in the hotel's dining area.  Classmate Steve Keithley, recovering from a motorcycle accident, was missed, and well wishes were extended by his many former classmates.  Class Sponsor, Terry Muilenburg, was also remembered during the program.  Tasty food, special treats, a "do you remember?" trivia game, and door prizes rounded out a night of renewed friendships and lots of laughter and stories, with the event ending at midnight.

On Sunday afternoon the Reunion Committee hosted an Open House/Hospitality Room from 2:00-4:00 at the Hitchcock Nature Center Lodge.  Eleven classmates and ten family members (and one cute pooch!) enjoyed reminiscing, the fabulous view on a picture-perfect afternoon, hiking trails, and a wide variety of munchies.
